Abdullah Gül Chevening Fellowship 2026 Announced for Next Batch
The British Embassy Ankara has announced that applications are now open for the prestigious Chevening Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) Fellowship and the Chevening OCIS Abdullah Gül Fellowship for the 2026/27 academic year. Hosted at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, these fully funded fellowships are tailored for mid-career academics and professionals who are committed to advancing academic understanding of the culture and civilization of Islam and contemporary Muslim societies.
Winners of Chevening Fellowship Will Receive Following
Successful fellows will undertake a five-month period of self-directed research at OCIS in Oxford starting in October 2026. The fellowship covers:
- Living expenses for the duration of the award.
- Return economy airfare from the home country to the UK.
- An allowance package for research-related activities.
- Access to cultural events and networking activities organized by the FCDO and Chevening Secretariat.
OCIS will also assist selected fellows with accommodation information in Oxford.
Eligibility Criteria To Pass to Apply for the Fellowship
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries, including Türkiye (for the Abdullah Gül Fellowship) and Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Philippines, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, or Uzbekistan.
- Hold a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional training/experience in a relevant area.
- Have at least five years of professional or academic research experience.
- Demonstrate leadership potential and a strong commitment to their field.
- Possess good working knowledge of English.
- Return to their home country after the fellowship period.
- Not hold British or dual-British citizenship, and not be closely related to employees of His Majesty’s Government or other ineligible organizations.
