The American Chemical Society (ACS) has officially opened applications for the ACS Catalyst Scholarship for the 2026–2027 academic year, marking a major milestone in its long-standing mission to develop the next generation of chemical scientists.
Beginning December 1st, 2025, students passionate about chemistry and its power to shape solutions to global challenges can submit their applications for one of the most impactful undergraduate funding opportunities in the United States. With a renewed focus on leadership, academic excellence, and lifelong learning, this scholarship program aims to empower promising students who will contribute to the future of chemical sciences.
A Scholarship Built to Cultivate Chemistry Leaders
The ACS Catalyst Scholarship supports undergraduate students who are committed to using chemistry for societal advancement—from tackling climate challenges to innovating in biotechnology, materials science, energy, and environmental solutions. This new initiative expands upon ACS’s 30-year legacy of helping more than 3,500 scholars begin successful careers in science and research. For 2026–2027, the program introduces enhanced professional development, mentorship, and leadership-building elements that prepare students not only academically but also professionally.
The program is designed for students who can demonstrate academic achievement, a clear understanding of chemistry’s role in improving lives, and the motivation to grow as scientists and leaders.
What the Scholarship Offers?
The ACS Catalyst Scholarship provides far more than financial assistance—it is a full academic and professional development experience. Each selected scholar will receive a renewable $10,000 scholarship, disbursed directly to their accredited college or university to cover essential expenses such as tuition, academic fees, and books. Additionally, recipients will gain access to professional development opportunities, mentorship engagement, and quarterly newsletters featuring research insights, program highlights, and career resources.
The scholarship is intended to reduce educational burdens, fuel innovation, and ensure that talented emerging scientists have the support needed to thrive in chemistry-related fields.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The eligibility scope is wide, offering opportunities to both high-achieving high school seniors and current undergraduates from freshman to senior year. Applicants must:
- Be enrolled full-time at a U.S. high school, community college, college, or university
- Intend to major—or already be majoring—in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology, or other chemistry-based sciences
- Plan to pursue a career specifically in the chemical sciences
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in science or chemistry
- Demonstrate strong academic aptitude, leadership potential, commitment to lifelong learning, and the ability to connect chemistry to real-world societal impact
It is important to note that this scholarship does not apply to pre-med pathways, nor to students pursuing Nursing or Pharmacy degrees. Its focus remains firmly on chemistry and chemistry-dependent scientific careers.
Application Period and Key Timeline
Applications will be accepted for ACS Catalyst Scholarship from December 1st, 2025 through March 1st, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to apply early to allow time to gather required documents, complete essays, and coordinate recommendation letters.
The evaluation process will follow ACS’s holistic review model, where academic excellence, communication skills, clarity of goals, and the applicant’s understanding of chemistry’s global significance are key assessment factors.
Results will be announced in early April 2026, and selected scholars must formally accept their award by May 30th, 2026.
