Associate Professorship Opportunity 2026 at University of Oxford
The University of Oxford’s Department of Education, in association with St Anne’s College, has announced a major academic opportunity for researchers in applied linguistics and language education. Applications are now open for the Associate Professorship of Language Education, with the post commencing in January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
About the Opportunity
The role is a full-time, permanent-track appointment that begins with a five (05) year term. Upon successful review, the appointee will be reappointed until the University’s retirement age. The position also includes a non-tutorial fellowship at St Anne’s College.
The Associate Professor will lead internationally recognized research in applied linguistics and language education, attract funded projects, and contribute to a range of Oxford’s academic programmes. These include:

- MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition (ALSLA)
- MSc in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching
- MSc in Learning and Teaching (Modern Languages)
- PGCE (Modern Languages)
The appointee will also engage in teaching, examining, supervision, and departmental administrative responsibilities.
Eligible Candidate Profile
Oxford is seeking an outstanding scholar who demonstrates:

- A doctorate in a field relevant to language education.
- An excellent record of peer-reviewed publications appropriate to career stage.
- A strong track record in funded research within language education or applied linguistics.
- Extensive teaching, supervision, and examining experience at the postgraduate level.
- Knowledge of current and emerging issues in language education, with implications for policy, practice, and theory.
- Evidence of collaboration and teamwork, alongside expertise in diverse research methodologies.
