Fellowship Coverage

The AIF fully supports up to 2 years of overseas post-doctoral training with:

  • Monthly overseas living allowance
  • Monthly sustenance allowance (inclusive of CPF where applicable)
  • Annual return airfare
  • Settling-in allowance
  • Computer allowance
  • Conference allowance
  • Annual personal insurance

Mid-term AIF awardees—those already in a top overseas lab—will enjoy the same benefits, plus retrospective payments for essential fees incurred since the start of their training.


Who Can Apply? – Quick Eligibility Guide

You should:

  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident (exceptional non-SPRs with stellar track records may be considered; non-citizens must secure citizenship before the fellowship starts).
  • Have completed a PhD within the last 4 years (or be in the final stages—award confirmed upon conferment).
  • Show an excellent publication record.
  • Be free of existing institutional bonds.
  • Have applied (or be applying) for a post-doctoral position at a top overseas university or laboratory.

For Mid-Term AIF Applicants:

  • Must be Singaporean and already enrolled in a top overseas university/lab at the time of application.
  • Supervisor should be at least one of your two (02) referees.

How to Apply?

  1. Secure or apply for a post-doctoral position at a leading overseas research institution.
  2. Prepare your application documents (including publication records and referees’ details).
  3. Submit your application via https://www.a-star.edu.sg/Scholarships/for-post-doctoral-studies/a-star-international-fellowship.
  4. Wait for the selection process—A*STAR may request additional information during evaluation.

The last date to apply for the A*STAR Singapore International Fellowship (AIF) 2026 is 1 October 2025.
