Are you passionate about officiating in the shooting sports? Shooting Australia (SA) has announced the 2025 Officiating Scholarship Program, offering aspiring officials a unique opportunity to develop their skills in ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) and WSPS (World Shooting Para Sport) disciplines. This program is a perfect stepping stone for those looking to gain experience and knowledge while working with seasoned professionals.
About the Program
The 2025 Officiating Scholarship Program will include up to nine individuals across three disciplines:
- 3 Pistol Officials
- 3 Rifle Officials
- 3 Shotgun Officials
Selected participants will receive mentoring, training, and opportunities to officiate at a minimum of three SA Endorsed Events. These events may be intrastate or interstate, and all associated travel, accommodation, and meal costs will be covered by Shooting Australia.

- Mentorship from experienced officials.
- Opportunities to officiate at high-level SA Endorsed Events, further developing practical knowledge and experience.
- Access to an ISSF Officiating Course upon successful completion of the program to obtain an ISSF Judge B and/or ISSF Referee (Shotgun) license.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Endorsement by a Member Organisation (MO) such as the Australian Clay Target Association, Target Rifle Australia, or Target Pistol Australia.
- Active membership in the MO for the chosen discipline.
- Completion of the MO’s officiating course aligned with ISSF/WSPS pathways.
- Demonstrated experience officiating in ISSF/WSPS or other events for the chosen discipline.
- Basic understanding of ISSF and WSPS rules.
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one.
- Possession of a Firearms Licence.
- Agreement to comply with SA’s Officials and Volunteers Policies.
- Familiarity with the National Integrity Framework as per Sport Integrity Australia guidelines.
- Willingness to complete Sport Integrity Australia’s online education modules.
Program Goals
By the end of the program, participants will:
- Master ISSF and WSPS rules and protocols.
- Exhibit effective communication skills with technical delegates, jury representatives, and participants.
- Demonstrate proficiency in equipment use, range safety, and competition procedures.
- Develop the ability to handle protests and conflicts confidently and efficiently.
- Build skills in logistics coordination and feedback management.
