Battery Research Fellowship 2025 at University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge, in partnership with the Faraday Institution (FI), has announced an exceptional battery research fellowship for early-career researchers. Hosted by the prestigious research group of Prof. Dame Clare Grey, this fellowship will be based in Cambridge and is focused on cutting-edge battery materials research.

Fellowship Overview

The fellowship is a part of the FI’s international collaboration initiative aimed at strengthening scientific links between the UK and Latin America. It offers selected researchers a unique opportunity to work on a project exploring (de)lithiation kinetics and degradation mechanisms in high-nickel and phosphate cathode materials. The study will focus on understanding how phase transformations and material degradation impact lithium-ion dynamics, battery efficiency, and rate capability.

What Will Fellows Work On?

Selected fellows will:

  • Conduct advanced electrochemical testing (including EIS, GITT, CV)
  • Utilize and develop impedance spectroscopy methods
  • Apply advanced data modelling for lithium-ion intercalation
  • Work with materials characterization techniques such as NMR, XRD, SEM
  • Contribute to understanding the degradation and performance of battery cathode materials

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be based in Chile, Argentina, or Brazil at the time of application
  • Hold or be about to complete a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Be at early-career postdoctoral level
  • Have secured funding for their fellowship duration through their home institution
  • Not currently reside, work, or extensively research in the UK
  • Not hold a permanent UK-based contract

Financial Support

The fellowship offers a generous funding package, including:

  • Return flights
  • Visa costs
  • Living and accommodation allowances in the UK for the duration of the fellowship
