The Bloomsbury Colleges PhD Studentships, established to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration across five (05) leading institutions, are now open for the 2025-26 academic year. This fully-funded college scholarship offers aspiring researchers the chance to undertake transformative research projects in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and other Bloomsbury Colleges.
Participating Institutions
The Bloomsbury Colleges group, founded in 2004, comprises:
- London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
- Birkbeck
- The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)
- The Royal Veterinary College (RVC)
- UCL Institute of Education (UCL–IOE)
Scholarship Benefits
Each studentship includes:
- Full tuition fees (at the LSHTM Home fee rate)
- A stipend equivalent to the UKRI studentship rate (GBP 21,237.00 for 2024-25)
These benefits are provided for the three-year duration of the PhD program. Additionally, successful international applicants may be eligible for an International Fee Waiver, which covers the difference between Home and Overseas tuition fees.
Available Research Projects at LSHTM
The LSHTM-led studentship projects for the 2025-26 academic year are:
- Assessing the Evolutionary Safety of Mutagenic Antiviral Drugs in the Context of Recombination – Led by Dr. Theo Sanderson.
- Using a One Health Approach to Investigate the Effects of Climate Change on Acute Malnutrition in the Sahel Region – Led by Dr. Oliver Cumming.
