The Brookings Internship Program is designed to provide meaningful, pre-professional work experiences that align with a student’s field of study or career interests. Interns at Brookings can work within various research programs such as Governance Studies, Global Economy and Development, Brookings Metro, Economic Studies, or Foreign Policy. Alternatively, internships are available within Brookings’ central business units like Human Resources, Executive Office, Finance, Development, Facilities, and Communications.

Interns are immersed in the daily operations at Brookings, engaging in tasks ranging from research projects to administrative duties and communication roles. The internship experience is enriched with internal and external events, networking opportunities, social and community programming, and professional development activities. Interns can also join employee-led professional networks and affinity groups, further enhancing their experience.

Eligibility Criteria

Brookings internships are open to individuals from all backgrounds and levels of experience. The eligibility requirements include:

  • Current undergraduate and master’s students (PhD students are not eligible)
  • Recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
  • International students with appropriate work authorization (F-1 or J-1 visa status, with OPT or CPT)
  • Individuals must be physically located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship
