Scholarship Value

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, students must:
- Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Be enrolled in or applying for full-time admission to a research-oriented master’s or doctoral program at a Canadian institution with CGRS M allocation.
- Have completed between 0–12 months of graduate-level studies in the program for which they seek funding (with specific conditions for combined or fast-track programs).
- Hold a first-class academic average in the last two years of full-time study (exceptions may apply based on institution rules).
- Ensure their graduate program involves a significant research component such as a thesis, dissertation, or scholarly publication.
- Not have previously held a Master’s-level scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Focus: The CGRS M emphasizes inclusivity and diversity. Special supplements and dedicated allocations exist for:
- Indigenous student researchers – eligible for up to $5,000 Indigenous Scholars Supplement in addition to the award.
- Black student researchers – with up to 20 additional awards reserved by each granting agency.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted via the Research Portal, where students can apply to up to three eligible Canadian institutions. Applicants must also prepare a Canadian Common CV through the official CV platform. Since institutions have their own internal deadlines, candidates are encouraged to contact the faculty of graduate studies of their chosen universities for details.

Selection Process: The evaluation is carried out at the institutional level, focusing on three weighted criteria:

- Personal characteristics and interpersonal skills – 20%
