Northumbria University has officially opened applications for the Cobham-Ultra UK Scholarships for the 2026–2027 cohort, offering a major financial boost for talented UK/Home undergraduate applicants beginning their studies in September 2026.
The Cobham-Ultra UK Scholarship is a competitive financial award dedicated to supporting two (02) outstanding undergraduate students entering Engineering, Environment, Mathematics, or Physics-related programmes at Northumbria University. The scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers and allow recipients to enhance their academic experience during their first year of study.
What the Scholarship Offers?
Successful applicants will receive £3,500, awarded as cash, during the first year of their degree. This funding can be used for learning resources, living support, research-related expenses, or any activity that enriches the university experience.
Payment Schedule:
- 25% in November 2026
- 25% in February 2027
- 50% in May 2027
The scholarship applies only to Year 1 and cannot be renewed.
Eligibility Checks
Your application will be considered if you meet at least one of the following:
- You identify as being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background.
- You have declared a physical or mental health condition, long-term illness, or learning difference in your UCAS application.
Additional mandatory conditions include:
- Must apply and enrol in one of the eligible full-time programmes at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus starting September 2026.
- Must choose Northumbria University as your firm choice by 30 June 2026.
- Must meet all academic entry requirements.
- Must be self-funded and registered with the appropriate Student Finance provider (SFE, SFW, SFNI, or SAAS).
- Must give consent for Student Finance data sharing with the University.
- Foundation Year progressors are also eligible.
Note: Students selected for Cobham-Ultra cannot receive additional undergraduate scholarships.

Engineering (BEng/MEng):
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Mathematics:
- Mathematics (BSc/MMath)
- Financial Mathematics
Physics:
- Physics (BSc/MPhys)
- Physics with Astrophysics (BSc/MPhys)
