What Is the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship?

This prestigious opportunity is part of the UK’s commitment to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP). It aims to attract outstanding talent from across the Commonwealth and support future leaders, educators, researchers, and changemakers in their quest for higher education and sustainable development.

This scholarship does not fund MBAs or part-time study. It is strictly for a one-year full-time taught Master’s degree at approved UK institutions with a co-funding agreement with the CSC.


What’s in the Funding Package?

Everything you need to live and study in the UK is covered, including:

  • Return airfare: From your home country to the UK and back after the award.
  • Tuition fees: Paid directly to the university—nothing out of your pocket.
  • Monthly stipend: £1,378 per month outside London, £1,690 per month in the London metropolitan area
  • Warm clothing allowance (where applicable)
  • Study travel grant for study-related travel in the UK or overseas
  • Child allowance (for single, widowed, or divorced parents): £590 per month for the first child, £146/month for each of the second and third children under 16.
  • Disability support: Full assessment and additional support if applicable.

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship 2026/27, you must:

  • Be a citizen of, or have refugee status in, an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be permanently resident in that country
  • Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) standard by September 2025 (If you have a lower second-class (2:2) degree, a relevant postgraduate qualification is required)
  • Not be able to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship
  • Be available to start studies in the UK in September 2025
  • Submit all required documents in the correct format
  • Apply through a nominating agency, not directly to the CSC.

Where Can You Study?

  • Any UK university or higher education institution with a part-funding agreement with the CSC
  • You must list up to three (03) universities and courses, in order of preference, with justification for each
  • CSC makes the final placement decision, so choose carefully but flexibly
  • Start your university applications separately and early—not having an offer letter at the time of selection can lead to disqualification.

Application Dates (Expected Timeline)

Applications for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships for the 2026/27 academic year are expected to open in September or October 2025. Candidates must apply through their respective national nominating agencies or approved NGOs, which will complete their nomination process by December 2025.

The final selection results will be announced by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission by July 2026, and selected scholars will begin their studies in the UK in September or October 2026.
