Astra is Constellation’s flagship fellowship program, designed to accelerate AI safety research by connecting exceptional fellows with world-class mentors from organizations like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Redwood Research, METR, Apollo Research, and the UK AI Security Institute.

Program Highlights
The Constellation Astra Fellowship offers student applicants a fully immersive 3–6 month in-person program at Constellation’s Berkeley Research Center, where they will work at the forefront of AI safety research. Throughout the fellowship, participants receive weekly one-on-one mentorship from senior AI experts specializing in areas such as empirical research, governance, strategy, and security.
The program is fully funded, providing fellows with a competitive stipend along with a generous research budget of $15,000 per month to cover compute and resources. International applicants are also supported with visa assistance, ensuring smooth participation in the program.
In addition, fellows become part of a vibrant AI-focused community of over 150 researchers, gaining access to daily seminars, workshops, and conferences that foster collaboration and innovation. Beyond the fellowship, Astra paves the way for career growth by helping participants secure high-impact roles at leading AI organizations or by supporting those who wish to launch and incubate their own AI safety projects and initiatives.
Who Should Apply?
Astra is looking for motivated individuals who are ready to tackle catastrophic risks from advanced AI. You might be:
