The CYD (Cyber-Defence) Fellowships are designed to support doctoral students in conducting advanced research at the intersection of security technologies and digital innovation. Fellows will carry out their research at the CYD Campus under the supervision of a professor at a Swiss university.
What the CYD Doctoral Fellowship Offers?
- Funding Duration: Up to 4 years (with a possible 1-year extension)
- Salary Contribution: Covers full doctoral stipend including social security benefits as per Swiss institution scales
- Research Costs: Up to CHF 3,000 per year
- Conference Costs: Up to CHF 5,000 per year.
Who Can Apply?
- Nationality: Open to applicants of any nationality
- Age Limit: None
- Enrollment Requirement: Must be (or become) enrolled in a PhD program at a Swiss higher education institution
- Professor Endorsement: Required from a supervising professor at a Swiss university
- PhD Stage: Applicants at all PhD stages can apply, but preference is given to those who are about to start or just beginning their PhD.

Application Deadlines
The application process for the CYD Doctoral Fellowships 2025 is divided into two stages. The Stage 1 application deadline is 20 August 2025 by 17:00 CEST, after which shortlisted candidates will be invited for mentor interviews during September 2025.
Selected applicants will then be required to submit a Stage 2 full proposal by 1 October 2025 (17:00 CEST). The final decision and fellowship awards will be announced by the end of November 2025.
