About the Daniel Carasso Fellowship

The Daniel Carasso Fellowship is a research career development grant designed for exceptional early-stage researchers working in sustainable food systems and diets. The fellowship provides:

  • €160,000 to cover salary and research activities over 24 months.
  • An opportunity to conduct research at a Spanish university or research center (public or private non-profit).
  • A platform to contribute interdisciplinary and multidimensional approaches to food sustainability, incorporating fields such as agronomy, biology, health, economics, political and social sciences, arts, engineering, and architecture.
  • Integration into a host research group, where awardees will receive mentorship and institutional support.

With this initiative, the Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso is nurturing a new generation of scholars who will shape the future of food sustainability through innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.


Who Can Apply?

The Daniel Carasso Fellowship is open to researchers who meet the following eligibility criteria:

1# Career Stage Requirements

    • Recognized Researchers (R2): PhD holders or equivalent who are not yet fully independent.
    • Established Researchers (R3): Researchers who have developed a level of independence.
    • Leading Researchers (R4): Researchers leading their research area or field.

2# Experience and Qualifications

    • Researchers of any nationality with 2 to 7 years of postdoctoral experience.
    • Candidates should have completed their PhD between January 20, 2018, and January 20, 2023. (Exceptions are made for justified reasons.)
    • Applicants should have an outstanding research track record and actively contribute to food sustainability.

3# Nomination Requirement

    • Each applicant must be nominated by an established researcher who commits to integrating them into a research group.
    • Self-nominations are not allowed.
    • Each nominator can support only one candidate.
