Dorcas McClean Scholarship 2024 for Violinists

The Dorcas McClean Scholarship is an exceptional opportunity for talented violinists seeking financial support for their studies. Open to both domestic and international students, this scholarship offers a substantial one-off payment that can significantly aid your educational journey.

  • Scholarship Value: $5,000 – $40,000
  • Runner-up Award: $10,000
  • Third Place Award: $5,000
  • Duration: One-off payment

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Dorcas McClean Scholarship, applicants must:
  • Be a violinist aged between 17 and 25 as of 2 February 2025.
  • Have been a resident in Australia for at least two years prior to 2 February 2025.
  • Be eligible for admission to a course of study at an institution approved by the University of Melbourne’s Academic Board, or be under the supervision of an approved teacher, or be a current graduate or undergraduate of the University of Melbourne.
Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on three rounds of performance competitions:
  1. Round 1: Online submission of a high-quality recording of the specified repertoire.
  2. Round 2: Assessment by a panel of prominent Australian violinists.
  3. Round 3: Final assessment by a panel of international and Australian violinists.

Judging will focus on musicality, tone, technique, intonation, and poise. Six candidates will advance to round 2, with three finalists proceeding to the final round.

  • Details of the proposed training or study program.

Step 3: Await the outcome. Applicants will be notified by 30 September if they have been selected for round two. Semi-finalists will receive their results during the competition held in February 2025.
