Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies 2026-2027 Admissions Open

The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) has officially announced the opening of applications for its Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies in Greece and Cyprus for the academic year 2026–27. This prestigious fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to immerse themselves in the heart of Greek civilization and conduct world-class research with direct access to invaluable resources.

Fellowship Highlights

Up to five fellowships will be awarded to exceptional scholars based in Greece and Cyprus whose research requires close access to archives, libraries, artifacts, or archaeological sites. Fellows will receive:

  • A $12,000 USD stipend to support their research.
  • Access to Harvard’s electronic library resources throughout the fellowship period.
  • Fully funded short research visits: up to 5 days at CHS Nafplio (Greece) and up to 10 days at CHS Washington, DC with airfare and accommodations covered.
  • A one-year appointment, beginning on July 1, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent), defended before July 1, 2025.
  • Open only to citizens or permanent residents of Greece or Cyprus who will reside there during the fellowship.
  • Applicants may not apply to other CHS fellowships (such as the Washington, DC program) during the same cycle.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit three PDF documents:

  1. A research proposal (max. 1,000 words).
  2. A curriculum vitae (CV).
  3. A sample of published or forthcoming work (max. 10,000 words).

Additionally, three references must be provided. The CHS system will contact referees once the application is submitted.

Application Deadlines

The deadline to submit applications for the Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies 2026–27 is Saturday, November 15, 2025 (midnight Eastern). All reference letters must be received by Saturday, November 22, 2025, and applicants will be notified of the results on Monday, March 2, 2026.
