Edith Cowan University (ECU) has officially opened applications for its Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Scholarships Round (RTP and ECUHDRS) for 2026, offering an excellent opportunity for both international and domestic students to pursue advanced research studies with financial support.

The application period runs from 3 September 2025 to 16 October 2025 (11:59 pm AWST), and students aiming for a PhD, Integrated PhD, or Master by Research degree are encouraged to apply.

What These Scholarships Offer?

The HDR scholarships, offered under the Research Training Program (RTP) and ECUHDRS scheme, are designed to support students with outstanding research potential. Successful applicants will receive:

Who Can Apply?

  • Prospective ECU Students: Applicants must have an offer (or have applied) for a PhD, Integrated PhD, or Master by Research. If your course application is still under assessment at the time of scholarship ranking, you may receive a conditional scholarship offer.

  • Current ECU HDR Students: Must hold a green progression status and seek approval from their supervisory team before applying.

Applicants can either:

  1. Apply for a specific advertised project led by an ECU supervisor.
  2. Propose their own research project, provided it aligns with ECU’s research priorities and supervisor expertise.

The 2026 HDR scholarship round features diverse and innovative research topics across ECU’s schools, including:

  • Arts and Humanities: AI in digital user experience, neuroplasticity in older adults, and mental health in tertiary students.
  • Business and Law: Climate-related disclosure assurance, AI in job-skill assessments, and sustainable tourism.
  • Education: Mathematics perceptions, outdoor learning in vocational training, and wellbeing through self-care.
  • Engineering: Electric vehicle integration, power grid resilience, and sustainable asphalt performance.
  • Medical and Health Sciences: Generative AI in health, mindfulness and brain health, cancer therapies, and child health literacy.
