EH International Scholarship 2026 at Karlstad University Open

Karlstad University has announced the application window for its EH International Programme Scholarship, a competitive funding opportunity aimed at outstanding international students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.

The EH international scholarship offers a 50% tuition-fee reduction for selected applicants admitted to eligible bachelor’s or master’s programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) for the autumn 2026 intake. Funded through the generous support of Eva and Henry Kartman, this initiative seeks to attract high-achieving talent committed to excelling in STEM fields at Karlstad University.

The scholarship is designed for international students who are required to pay tuition fees and who have applied for an eligible STEM programme starting in the autumn semester. While the award covers half of the tuition fee, it does not include living costs, and applicants must still demonstrate the financial capability required for a Swedish residence permit. Students are encouraged to review the financial proof guidelines available through the Swedish Migration Agency to ensure compliance.

Applications for the 2026 EH scholarship period will be accepted till 15 February 2026, and candidates must complete their programme application before submitting the scholarship form. Only applicants who have already applied for a STEM bachelor’s or master’s programme at Karlstad University—and paid the application fee unless exempt—will be eligible. Late programme or scholarship applications will not be considered.

Eligible candidates must be citizens of non-EU/EEA countries or Switzerland and must be applying for an autumn 2026 STEM programme at bachelor’s or master’s level. Applicants are not eligible if they have lived in Sweden for more than two years before the scholarship period begins, hold a Swedish permanent residence or work permit, already possess a master’s degree from a Swedish university, or have been previously funded by the Swedish Institute or any other Swedish awarding body.

The scholarship is applicable only to the specific programme for which it is awarded. Deferring admission or switching programmes may invalidate the award. During the selection process, Karlstad University prioritizes applicants who demonstrate strong academic performance, clear motivation for pursuing their chosen STEM programme, and a strong commitment to studying at the university. Applicants who list Karlstad University as their first priority at University Admissions are also given preference. As a merit-based award, financial need does not influence the selection outcome.

International students planning to begin their STEM studies in Sweden in autumn 2026 are encouraged to prepare early and ensure both the programme application and scholarship form are completed within the designated timelines.
