ÉTS-Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship 2026 Available for Applicants of All Countries

École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) has opened applications for the 2026 Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship, a funding program designed to support graduate students who wish to combine their academic research with practical experience in partner organizations.

Through this fellowship, students of all countries at ÉTS can obtain structured financial support for research internships carried out within companies or other eligible organizations, making it an important opportunity for those seeking to link their academic projects to real-world innovation and professional environments.

ETS Mitcas Fellowship Financial Structure

The ÉTS Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship provides substantial financial support linked to a series of research internships. For master’s students, the program offers a total amount of $40,000 over 18 months, corresponding to a maximum of three internships.

For doctoral students, the fellowship provides $80,000 over 36 months, which can include up to six internships. The total amount is paid to the supervising professor as a research grant, from which the intern receives a minimum of $30,000 at the master’s level and $72,000 at the PhD level as personal funding. In addition, an amount of $10,000 for master’s projects or $8,000 for doctoral projects is reserved to cover research-related costs, ensuring that both the student’s work and the project’s needs are supported.

The fellow must spend at least 50% of their research time at the partner organization, and the program is accompanied by recommended professional development training to help maximize learning and project impact.

ETS Mitcas Fellowship Supported programs and working language

The 2026 ÉTS Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship applies to specific graduate programs that involve a significant research component. Eligible students are those enrolled in a master’s degree with thesis, a master’s degree with project or a PhD program at ÉTS.

The fellowship is structured to integrate internships into an ongoing research project supervised by an ÉTS professor and jointly developed with a partner organization. The working language for research and communication may vary depending on the project, the research group and the partner organization, and applicants are expected to be able to communicate effectively with all parties involved in the collaboration.

Eligibility Requirements for Candidates and Partners

Eligibility for this fellowship is based on both the student’s status and the nature of the partner organization. Candidates must be enrolled full-time at ÉTS in a master’s or doctoral program for the entire duration of the funded internships.

The program is open to individuals with different legal statuses, including citizens of Canada, permanent residents and international students, as long as they meet the full-time enrolment requirement. On the partner side, eligible organizations include for-profit businesses in Canada, as well as certain non-profit organizations and certain Crown corporations that agree to host the intern and contribute to the financing of the project. The intern must carry out activities directly related to a joint research project defined between ÉTS and the partner.

Application Timing and Need for Early Planning

Applications for the Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship are tied to the planned start of the internship rather than to a single fixed annual deadline. The request must be submitted at least six weeks before the scheduled start date of the internship in order to allow enough time for review and processing.

It is strongly recommended that students begin preparing their project and coordinating with their supervisor and partner organization around four months before filing the application, so that the research plan, financial contribution and hosting arrangements can be finalized in good time.
