Fellowships for Americans 2025 by American-Scandinavian Foundation
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) is now accepting applications for its 2025 fellowships and grants, enabling U.S. citizens and permanent residents to explore research, study, or creative arts projects across Scandinavia.
Each year, ASF awards up to 21 individuals fellowships or grants to support unique, full-time projects in one or more Scandinavian countries for up to a year, with priority given to candidates whose work necessitates an immersive experience abroad.
Benefits Package
The ASF fellowship program provides a significant financial boost to scholars and artists:
- Fellowships offer up to $23,000 for projects lasting up to one year.
- Grants of up to $5,000 are available for shorter projects, spanning one to three months, making them ideal for postgraduate scholars, professionals, or artists aiming for study visits or concise research projects.
Beyond funding, recipients benefit from an immersive experience in a Scandinavian setting, expanding their academic, professional, or artistic work with invaluable cross-cultural insights and international affiliations.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Project Relevance: Candidates must have a well-defined research, study, or creative arts project that requires a stay in Scandinavia.
- Educational Background: Completion of undergraduate education by the project start date.
- Field Suitability: ASF grants and fellowships cater particularly to postgraduates, doctoral students, postdoctoral scholars, professionals, and individuals in the arts.
- Self-Secured Placement: Applicants are responsible for securing their placements or affiliations at academic or professional institutions in Scandinavia.
- Language Skills: Basic proficiency in the language of the host country is preferred.
Additional Considerations:
- Team projects are eligible, though each member must submit their own complete application.
- Graduate-level candidates focusing on dissertation-related work or research receive priority consideration for the fellowship.
