Say hello to the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2025, a unique hybrid internship opportunity that lets you work with IIT Bombay’s FOSSEE team, either remotely or from the campus itself. Yep, you read that right—IIT Bombay!

What is the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship?

The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project invites applications from students across India to be a part of its annual summer fellowship. The duration of the fellowship is about 1.5 to 2 months, and students can either work remotely or in-person at IIT Bombay (subject to hostel availability).

To qualify, you’ll need to select a project, complete one screening task, and submit it for evaluation. Each project is unique, and the screening task is designed to assess your skills relevant to the project.


Who Can Apply?

  • You must be a student currently enrolled in any university/college.
  • You need to choose one project and complete a related screening task.
  • You should be ready to engage full-time or part-time in a remote or hybrid work setup.

No previous internship experience required—just a willingness to learn, explore, and contribute to open-source software!

What Are the Available Projects?

Here’s a glimpse of the exciting projects you can contribute to:

1# Osdag (Civil Engineering & CAD)

    • Calculate shear force/bending moment for moving loads
    • Python-based diagram generation

    • Animation creation using Blender.

2# eSim (Electronics & Circuit Simulation)

    • Research migration, tool upgrades, and feature additions.

3# FOCAL (Graphic Design & Animation)

    • Design a book cover, infographic, poster, or animation using Synfig/Blender.

4# OpenFOAM CFD & GUI

    • Simulate heat transfer or logic nodes GUI.

5# Spoken Tutorials

    • Submit a 2-minute tutorial video on open-source topics.

6# Web Development

    • Create/extend themes in Drupal 10.

Application Timeline

The application process for the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2025 officially begins on 11 March 2025. Interested students must complete and submit their screening tasks no later than the 7th of April 2025. The results of the selected candidates will be announced on 15 April 2025, and the fellowship is tentatively scheduled to run from 15 May to 15 July 2025.
