Fully-funded Scholarships 2026 Open at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has formally opened applications for its 2026 intake of international graduate students, inviting outstanding candidates from around the world to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in Wuhan under competitive admission and fully funded scholarship schemes.

The new application round, which runs with an application deadline of March 1, 2026, combines rigorous academic selection with the possibility of generous financial support through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC, Type B) and other funding channels, positioning HUST as a major destination for high-potential international researchers seeking to study in China at minimal personal cost.

HUST Scholarship Package Explained

The biggest attraction for many international applicants is the possibility of studying almost free of cost through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC). HUST offers full scholarships for excellent applicants under CSC Type B, using Agency Number 10487.

If you win a CSC scholarship through HUST, it normally includes:

  • Full tuition fee waiver for the entire study period.
  • Free on-campus accommodation in single or double rooms, with private bathroom, hot water, air-conditioning, internet, and basic furniture.
  • A monthly stipend (living allowance) depending on whether you are a master’s or PhD student.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance for each academic year.

What You Can Study at HUST and in Which Language?

HUST welcomes international graduate students into a wide range of programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. The main fields include:

  • Engineering and Technology
  • Science (e.g., physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc.)
  • Economics and Management
  • Literature, Law, and Education
  • Medicine and health-related disciplines

Most master’s programs taught in Chinese last 3 years, while many English-taught master’s programs last 2 years. Doctoral programs usually run for 4 years.

You can choose between:

  • Chinese-medium programs, if you already have HSK and want to study in Chinese.
  • English-medium programs, if your strong language is English and the program is available in English.

This flexibility allows you to match your program choice with your language strengths and career plans.

Eligibility Requirements for 2026 Graduate Applicants

To be considered for admission in 2026, international applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance and clear research potential at the appropriate level. Candidates for master’s programs must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, normally with a minimum grade point average around 3.0 on a 4.0 scale—or 3.75/5.0 or 75 percent in comparable systems—and should be under 35 years of age at the time of application, while doctoral applicants must already hold a master’s degree or equivalent, meet the same minimum GPA standards, and be under 40 years of age.

All prior degrees should be equivalent to the corresponding Chinese qualifications. For Chinese-medium graduate programs, applicants must satisfy HSK requirements that vary by discipline, typically HSK 4 for science, engineering, and medicine and HSK 5 with higher score thresholds for economics, management, literature, law, education, and programs administered by Tongji and Union hospitals. For English-taught tracks, a valid TOEFL score of at least 80, IELTS of 6.0 or above, GRE of 310 or higher, or an equivalent language certificate is generally required, although candidates whose previous degree was taught entirely in Chinese or English may be exempted from submitting separate language test results.

Step-by-Step Application Process for International Candidates

Prospective students begin the process by registering on the HUST Online Application System at the official admissions portal, selecting their intended master’s or doctoral program and language track, and carefully entering academic and personal information before uploading the required academic documents. Once the initial academic profile is in place, applicants are scheduled to sit an online language test composed of objective questions that help the university verify the declared language proficiency.

The completed application is then automatically forwarded to the relevant school or department for academic review, during which faculty assess transcripts, research proposal, study plan or motivation letters, and supporting materials. Applicants who successfully pass this stage receive a Pre-admission Letter indicating that they have been preliminarily accepted to study at HUST, subject to final institutional and scholarship decisions.

At this point, those seeking CSC funding submit a parallel application through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System under Program Category Type B using HUST’s Agency Number 10487, while all candidates continue to refine and upload additional non-academic documents as requested. Once all reviews are complete, HUST issues the formal Admission Notice and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW form) to successful applicants, enabling them to apply for a student visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country.

HUST CSC Scholarship Application Deadline: March 1, 2026.
