Scholarship Overview

The Germaine Cox Scholarship—funded by the KU Leuven Faculty of Law and Criminology—offers up to 15 partial tuition fee waivers for the 2026–2027 academic year. Successful applicants will pay a reduced tuition fee of €5,613.10 instead of €9,493.90 for one full academic year. This financial support ensures that talented students from developing and middle-income countries can join KU Leuven’s renowned LL.M. community and contribute to its dynamic, multicultural environment.

  • Hold a law degree qualifying them to practice law (or pass the bar exam) in their home jurisdiction.
  • Have already applied for KU Leuven’s Advanced LL.M. programme before submitting the scholarship application.
  • Demonstrate financial need through verified documents (bank statements or pay slips).
  • Possess excellent English proficiency (IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 100 / CAE C1).
  • Submit a letter of motivation and three recommendation letters (at least two from professors).

Eligible applicants include citizens from Africa, Asia, South America, Central America, Europe (non-EU), and Oceania—as listed under OECD-DAC ODA recipient countries.


Application Timeline

Applications for the Germaine Cox Scholarship 2026 at KU Leuven will officially open on 8 October 2025 at 9:00 CET. Interested applicants must submit their completed applications no later than 15 May 2026 at 23:55 CET. The selection process will take place in two rounds — Round 1 results will be announced between April and 15 May 2026, while Round 2 results will be released between June and 1 July 2026.

Only candidates who receive an admission offer to the LL.M. will be considered for the scholarship. The selection committee evaluates candidates based on academic merit, financial need, and motivation.


Selection and Notification

The KU Leuven LL.M. Admissions Committee will assess applications and announce awards on a rolling basis from April to July 2026. A total of up to 15 scholarships will be granted. Round 1 recipients will have until 1 June 2026 to accept their offer, while Round 2 recipients must confirm within three working days.
