German Academic Scholarship Foundation Set to Open for All
The German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) is Germany’s oldest and largest grant foundation for exceptionally gifted and dedicated students. Scholarship Sponsorship Details
The German Academic Scholarship Foundation ensures that financial constraints do not hinder academic success. Every scholar receives a monthly study allowance of €300, and depending on family circumstances, a basic scholarship of up to €855 per month may also be provided to cover living costs. Additional support includes subsidies for health and nursing care insurance, family allowances, and childcare allowances for parents.

The foundation emphasizes intellectual growth through summer academies, interdisciplinary forums, and research groups where students can collaborate and explore beyond their field of study. Scholars are also encouraged to gain international exposure with additional funding for study, research, internships, or language courses abroad.

The scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students at officially recognized institutions of higher education in Germany. To be considered, applicants should demonstrate:

- Specialized nomination routes for students in arts, music, design, film, and applied sciences, as well as doctoral candidates.
Successful applicants are invited to attend a selection seminar, which includes interviews with foundation representatives.
Application Timeline
The self-nomination phase will be open for applications in January 2026, and selected students progress through the assessment process, including tests and interviews, throughout the year. Nomination-based applications can be made anytime, depending on the referring institution.
