Google Gives Worldwide Students Gemini AI Free for 1 Year — Apply Before December 31 2026

A university student who normally cannot justify paying every month for a premium AI subscription now has a rather useful Google offer to investigate: Google AI Plus is being given to eligible higher-education students for 12 months at no charge.

This is a genuine Google promotion, not a third-party scholarship scheme. Google’s current student page advertises a free year of its AI Plus plan with 400 GB of cloud storage, higher Gemini usage limits, unlimited uploads for study tools and access to AI-powered image and video features. The offer is currently redeemable until December 31, 2026.

The one claim applicants should treat carefully is “worldwide.” Google has made the plan available across a large number of countries, but not every student in every country automatically qualifies.

What Do Students Actually Get for Free Gemini AI Access?

The attraction is not simply access to the ordinary Gemini chatbot.

Google says the student AI Plus plan provides twice the standard usage limits, 400 GB of storage and access to Gemini Omni, together with unlimited uploads for Study Notebooks, Visuals and Gemini Live.

Students can upload lecture notes, slides and other course material and use Gemini to generate personalized quizzes, study guides and learning plans. Google also promotes the service for research, writing assistance, exam preparation, image creation and video generation.

For students who already use Google Drive, Gmail and other Google services for coursework, the 400 GB allowance may be nearly as useful as the AI subscription itself.

Is the Free Google Gemini Student Plan Really Worldwide?

It is internationally available, but “worldwide” is too broad.

Google’s current support documentation says the 12-month AI Plus student trial is offered to higher-education students in countries where Google AI Plus is supported, with certain locations excluded from this particular offer.

Google AI Plus itself is available across a long list of countries including Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UAE, United Kingdom and many European, African, Asian and Latin American markets.

That does not mean every AI Plus country necessarily receives identical student pricing. The correct test is whether the student offer appears for your Google account and country when you begin verification.

Who Can Claim the Google Student Offer?

Applicants need to be enrolled at a recognised higher-education institution and successfully verify their student status through SheerID, normally using a valid institutional email address.

You also need:

  • a personal Google Account;
  • a Google Payments account;
  • a qualifying payment method; and
  • residence/study eligibility in a participating country.

One detail requires caution. Google’s legal student-offer terms updated on August 4, 2026 state an age threshold of 16 or older, while Google’s Australian student page describes the free offer as available to eligible university students aged 18+.

Students should therefore rely on the age requirement displayed for their own country when claiming the offer rather than assuming one global age rule applies everywhere.

How to Claim Google AI Plus Free for One Year as a Student?

Step 1: Open Google’s Student Offer Page

Go to Google’s official student-plan page and select Claim a student plan on us.

Step 2: Sign In With a Personal Google Account

Do not rely solely on your university-managed Google Workspace account. Google requires a personal Google Account for the subscription.

Step 3: Verify That You Are a Student

Google uses SheerID to confirm higher-education enrolment. Follow the verification process and provide your valid institutional details when requested.

Step 4: Add a Payment Method

A qualifying payment method is required even though the eligible 12-month promotional period costs nothing. This is the step students should not rush through without understanding the terms.

Step 5: Claim the Offer Before December 31

Google’s current terms state that the offer must be redeemed by December 31, 2026. Once activated, the promotional subscription lasts for the advertised 12-month period.

The Catch: Remember What Happens After 12 Months

“Free for one year” does not necessarily mean the subscription disappears automatically after one year.

Google says that when a student offer ends, the account generally converts to the corresponding regular paid Google AI plan, except where applicable law requires additional consent. Google says users will be notified before that transition.

Students who only want the free promotional period should therefore make a note of their renewal date and review the subscription before billing begins.

Should Students Claim It?

For an eligible university student who already works with research papers, lecture notes, assignments, presentations or exam preparation, the offer is unusually practical because there is no application essay, academic competition or scholarship selection committee. Eligibility verification is the main gate.

The bigger mistake would be assuming that a social-media post saying “all students worldwide get Gemini free” guarantees access. Check the Google offer using your own country and account, complete SheerID verification and read the renewal price displayed before accepting.

The current redemption deadline is December 31, 2026. If you read this article after that date, check Google’s student page again: Google has offered different student AI promotions across successive periods, but a future free offer, duration or deadline should not be assumed until Google publishes it officially.

If your country is not accepting the offer, SheerID cannot verify your university, your institutional email is rejected, or you are unsure whether an existing Google One subscription makes you eligible, leave your country and situation in the comments below. We can help separate an account problem from a genuine country-eligibility restriction.
