Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) International Summer Scholarship 2025
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) has announced the International Summer Student Programme (ISSP) 2025, a fully funded research opportunity for undergraduate students in science and engineering disciplines. Running from 7 July to 29 August 2025, the programme offers participants an invaluable chance to work on cutting-edge research projects in Berlin, Germany.
ISSP German Programme Objectives
The ISSP is designed to immerse students in advanced research fields such as:
- Photon Science
- Photovoltaics and Solar Cells
- Electrochemical Energy Storage
- Quantum and Functional Materials
- Accelerator Research
Participants will collaborate with HZB scientists on individual research projects and engage in a robust framework programme, which includes:
- Visits to state-of-the-art facilities, such as BESSY II synchrotron radiation source.
- Excursions to Berlin’s leading research institutions.
- Workshops on science communication and entrepreneurship.
- A closing event featuring a scientific poster presentation.
Funding and Benefits
1# Internship Allowance:

- €1,900 gross for participants from outside Berlin.
- €1,000 gross for students from Berlin or Potsdam universities.
2# Travel Subsidy: Reimbursement of 75% of travel costs up to:

- €200 for students from EU countries.
- €800 for students from non-EU countries.
3# Networking Opportunities: Engage with renowned scientists and fellow students from around the world.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be an undergraduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s) student in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Structural Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Have completed at least two years of full-time university studies in their field.
- Be enrolled at a university during the programme duration (7 July to 29 August 2025).
- Possess a strong command of English (knowledge of German is advantageous).
- Submit a letter of reference from a faculty member or mentor.
