Hohai University CSC Scholarships 2027–2028: Application Process
Hohai University’s fully funded CSC Scholarship 2027–2028 is open for international master’s and PhD applicants. If your next step involves water research, engineering, computing or another advertised discipline, this Chinese Government Scholarship can cover the major costs of studying in China.
Hohai is a public university with campuses in Nanjing and Changzhou, recognized particularly for water resources and engineering. Its CSC High-Level Graduate Student Program selects postgraduate candidates through university review and recommendation, followed by China Scholarship Council approval.
Your first task is finding an academic match: both degree levels require supervisor support. What must the professor sign, and how do the university and CSC applications connect? This guide takes you from programme choice to a complete submission.
01 What does the Hohai CSC Scholarship cover?
The award covers tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, a living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance. These four components are confirmed in Hohai’s current scholarship brochure.
For budgeting, the published standard CSC stipend rates are RMB 3,000 monthly for master’s students and RMB 3,500 for doctoral students. These are national CSC rates; Hohai’s brochure confirms the allowance without repeating its amount.
Keep a separate budget for the application fee, document preparation, visa and travel: the advertised package does not promise payment of these expenses. The standard degree duration is three years for a master’s and four for a PhD; an extended study period should not be treated as automatically funded.

02 Which Hohai programmes and applicants qualify?
Master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree and must be under 35; PhD applicants need a master’s degree and must be under 40, according to the English guide. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health. Prospective graduates may submit official proof of current student status.
Hohai publishes separate 2027 English-taught master’s and doctoral programme lists. The comparison below helps you avoid choosing a subject offered only at the other degree level.
| Availability | Advertised English-taught subjects |
|---|---|
| Both levels | Hydrology and Water Resources; Hydraulic and Hydro-Power Engineering; Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering; Civil Engineering; Environmental Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Computer Science and Technology; Mechanics; Geological Resources and Geological Engineering; Surveying Science and Technology; Agricultural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Information and Communication Engineering; Business Administration; Management Science and Engineering; Sociology; Marxism Theory. |
| Master’s additions | Transportation Engineering; Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics; Physics; Control Science and Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; Geography; Mathematics. |
| PhD additions | Marine Sciences; Resettlement Science and Engineering. |
| Energy route | Master’s: Renewable Energy Science and Engineering. PhD: New Energy Science and Engineering. |
Choose the subject that your previous coursework, projects or employment can support. English-medium study also carries a later obligation: graduate students must reach Level 3 of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages by graduation.

03 Secure Hohai supervisor support before submitting
Both master’s and PhD applicants must obtain a signed supervisor pre-acceptance letter and a supervisor-signed study plan. Hohai treats an application without a valid acceptance letter as incomplete, which may affect review.
My recommendation is to use Hohai’s supervisor directory to identify a research match, then send a focused email with your CV and proposed topic. Ask for the acceptance letter and study-plan signature together, since they are separate requirements.
Write more than 1,000 English words or Chinese characters covering your academic background, study/work experience and proposed graduate research. Our Chinese scholarship study-plan guide can help develop the argument; Hohai’s length and signature rules take priority.
- Identity: Passport information page, with validity extending beyond September 2027; Chinese visas and residence permits where applicable, or the passport substitute specified for applicants without them.
- Academic evidence: Notarized highest diploma, or official student-status evidence for prospective graduates; sealed transcripts from undergraduate study onward. Supply the required notarized translations for documents outside Chinese/English.
- English evidence: Non-native English speakers must provide proficiency evidence such as IELTS or TOEFL. The Chinese text also permits other evidence, but the call gives no universal score or automatic English-medium-degree waiver; obtain Admissions’ approval before relying on an alternative.
- Academic support: Two signed recommendations in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors, with contact details, alongside the supervisor documents above.
- Health and conduct: Completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form in English, including all required signatures, stamps and sealed photograph; results remain valid for six months. A valid police clearance is normally issued within six months before application.
- Supporting records: CV showing continuous study history from undergraduate level, full Chinese study history where applicable, publication list and abstracts if any, signed personal commitment, and the CSC application form.

04 How to complete Hohai’s university and CSC applications
You need both systems: an initial CSC form for Hohai’s application, then the later CSC stage if the university recommends you. The brochure lists the form among initial documents while separately scheduling the recommended-candidate submission.
- Prepare the CSC form. Use the CSC online application system with Type B and agency number 10294 for Hohai University. Obtain the application form required for your university attachment.
- Submit to Hohai University. Register through Hohai’s admissions portal or its alternative application address. Complete your programme details, upload the full document set and CSC form, and pay RMB 400. Incomplete documents or unsuccessful payment prevent acceptance of the application.
- Complete the university assessment. Hohai conducts initial screening, college academic review and an online interview before selecting recommended candidates. I would prepare to explain your research question, methods and supervisor fit clearly, because research ability and development potential are assessed.
- Complete the recommended-candidate CSC stage. If nominated, follow Hohai’s pre-admission instructions and complete the required CSC submission by its later cutoff. The university’s recommendation still requires CSC approval; successful applicants then receive formal admission and JW201 documentation.
Keep copies of both submissions and payment evidence. For a portal instruction that conflicts with the brochure, contact [email protected] before the university cutoff.

05 Hohai CSC questions that affect your application
Do I need publications to apply?
No compulsory publication requirement is stated. Hohai asks for a publication list and abstracts if you have them, so applicants without papers should demonstrate research preparation through their projects, proposal and recommendations.
Must I graduate from a famous university or have honours?
The current call does not impose a university-ranking or honours requirement. Selection assesses academic achievement, research capability and development potential; our CSC competitiveness guide explains how eligibility differs from winning a funded place.
Does a supervisor’s acceptance guarantee the scholarship?
No. Supervisor support makes your application complete, while university review, interview, recommendation and final CSC assessment determine the outcome. Keep the supervisor letter, university pre-admission notice and final award decision distinct.
