Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 at University of Toronto
The Jackman Humanities Institute (JHI), in partnership with DH@UofT (the redesigned Critical Digital Humanities Initiative), has opened applications for a 12-month postdoctoral fellowship in Digital Humanities for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027. Aligned with the JHI annual theme “Doubles, Doppelgangers,” the fellowship empowers an emerging scholar to pursue independent research while helping connect and strengthen digital humanities communities across U of T’s tri-campus network.

Eligibility
- PhD window: Doctorate completed within five years of July 1, 2026
- Applicants who will defend by end of May 2026 are eligible (award contingent on successful defense)
- Ineligible if PhD conferred before July 1, 2020
- Appointment status: Not open to those holding a tenure-track position
- Alma mater: U of T graduates/candidates are eligible
- Citizenship: Open to all nationalities
- Disciplinary scope: “Humanities” broadly conceived (includes interpretive social science, political theory, music, arts) with a demonstrated track record in Digital Humanities, especially critical DH and commitments to open-source/open access.
Application Deadline (Class of 2026)
Applications for the 2026–27 Critical Digital Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship officially open on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Interested applicants must submit their complete application no later than Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 4:00 pm EDT. Referees will have until Tuesday, December 2, 2025 to upload their confidential letters of recommendation. The fellowship will run from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
