Ikerbasque Spain Need Researchers in All Subject Areas for 2026 Intake
Ikerbasque, the Basque Foundation for Science, has announced an exciting opportunity for international researchers across all academic fields. The institution is offering 10 permanent positions for outstanding researchers who wish to build a long-term scientific career in the Basque Country. This highly competitive program is designed to attract top-tier talent, strengthen the region’s research capacity, and foster groundbreaking discoveries.
Funding Package
Selected candidates will be offered permanent contracts as Research Professors or Research Associates, depending on their career stage. Salaries will be aligned with those of Basque research institutions and will be adjusted according to the candidate’s experience. In addition to stable career development, researchers will gain access to the Basque Country’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure and dynamic academic environment. An acceptance letter from a host institution in the Basque research ecosystem (listed at science.eus) is mandatory for all applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
The call is open to researchers of any nationality who have completed their PhD before January 2017. Two distinct tracks are available:
- Research Associates: For established postdoctoral researchers who conduct independent research and have an internationally recognized reputation in their field.
- Research Professors: For senior researchers with a proven international profile, exceptional leadership skills, and a strong record of securing significant external funding.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate independence, leadership, and the ability to attract competitive research grants. Applications from women are especially encouraged to foster inclusivity in research leadership.
