ILSPSD Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027–2029 Open: Easy Application Method
Want to study international law in Europe with your tuition covered and a monthly scholarship? ILSPSD Erasmus Mundus Scholarship applications are open for the 2027–2029 intake, and candidates of all nationalities can apply. But check your graduation status first: you must have completed your undergraduate studies when you submit a scholarship application.
The International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development programme combines two years of study with movement between European universities. Law graduates are eligible, while applicants from relevant social sciences can qualify through its M.A. route. Here is how to check your fit before preparing the application.
Plan your ILSPSD application as Per Following
Does your degree qualify, even without a law major?
Yes, relevant social-science graduates can qualify for the M.A. route. Your accredited bachelor’s must equal at least 180 ECTS and permit master’s entry. Leuphana requires 60 ECTS in law for its LL.M., or relevant subjects such as politics and international relations for its M.A.
Outside the ECTS system? Obtain your university’s course-workload evidence and supply the required conversion. Check additional academic conditions for your second-year partner.
Completed your studies but awaiting the diploma? You can seek the scholarship if your transcript confirms all degree requirements are complete and your university confirms the diploma will arrive before 31 August 2027. Still studying? Conditional entry is available only through the self-funded route. Holding another master’s does not itself exclude you, but previous EMJM Student Scholarship recipients cannot receive this scholarship.
English normally requires IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 5 (95 for tests before 21 January 2026), or accepted Cambridge evidence. Tests must be within two years of submission. Glasgow requires IELTS 7.0 with every component at least 6.5 or equivalent; Brussels additionally requires French evidence at B2 or the specified degree-based alternative.
An English-medium degree does not automatically waive testing: the programme restricts that exemption to qualifications from its listed countries. Duolingo is not accepted. Check this before paying for a test or relying on a medium-of-instruction letter.
What does the scholarship pay, and where will you study?
The award combines tuition exemption with €33,600 in scholarship payments over 24 months. That is €1,400 monthly, intended to contribute to living, travel, visa and installation costs. Budget those expenses from the allowance rather than assuming separate reimbursements for each journey.
The consortium advertises 70 scholarships across four intakes, with approximately a quarter allocated to each intake. That is not 70 awards for 2027 alone. Nationality distribution rules also apply, generally limiting one nationality to 10% of the overall awards, with exceptions for targeted regions.
You begin at Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany, then move to Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals in Spain. Your third semester follows one specialization:
- Glasgow, United Kingdom: International Law and International Security.
- Brussels, Belgium: Security and Conflict.
- Lisbon, Portugal: Globalization, Law and Security.
- Tartu, Estonia: International Law and Human Rights.
You remain at the third-semester destination for your dissertation. This means studying at three partner institutions, with joint, double or multiple degrees depending on your route. Choose the specialization that supports your research and career direction, then check its entry conditions.
What will make your scholarship application competitive?
Academic merit carries 50% of the scholarship assessment, your personal statement 40%, and references 10%. Relevant work and practical experience are considered within the personal-statement component.
Use those weights to decide where your preparation time goes. Your transcript establishes academic strength; your statement needs to explain what you want to investigate and why this particular programme and track fit that goal.
For example, connect a dissertation, internship or community project to a specific question in human rights, security or sustainability. Explain what you learned, which research skills you developed and what further study would help you do. Give referees enough context to discuss those achievements with evidence. Your personal statement should also explain your research interests, practical aims and preferred third-semester track.
How to submit the correct ILSPSD application
One application covers programme admission and scholarship consideration. Admission eligibility is assessed before candidates progress to the scholarship competition; an admission offer does not guarantee funding.
- Confirm your route. Read the official entry requirements, including partner-specific academic and language conditions.
- Select your track preferences. Rank three preferences; follow the guide’s instruction if eligible for only one.
- Prepare your uploads. Gather your school-leaving qualification, degree and transcript, English evidence, CV with a first-page photo, personal statement ideally below 1,000 words, and two recommendations. At least one reference must be academic; letters must be dated within two years.
- Check document languages. Write your statement, CV and references in English. Follow the translation rules for certificates; apostilles are not required.
- Open the scholarship form. Use “Apply now (incl. Scholarship)” in the official application guide to reach Leuphana’s online portal. Save your application link. The guide does not specify an application fee; check the form.
- Submit and monitor your email. Complete all uploads before the deadline. Follow the guide’s email procedure if a referee sends a letter directly. Read the scholarship rules before accepting an offer.
Which deadline must your complete application meet?
The last date to apply for the ILSPSD Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027–2029, coordinated by Leuphana University of Lüneburg, is 4 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. Supporting documents, language evidence and referee letters must meet the scholarship deadline; no later English-test submission is allowed.
Self-funded admission closes on 31 March 2027 at 23:59 CEST, with the €500 self-funded deposit due on 31 May 2027. The March admission deadline does not extend the January scholarship competition.
