A major opportunity has just opened its doors for researchers worldwide. The International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme 2026, hosted by the Centre on Household Assets and Savings Management (CHASM) at the University of Birmingham (UK), is officially accepting applications—and will remain open until Monday, 23 February 2026.
This announcement marks one of the year’s most exciting fellowship calls for scholars working at the intersection of inequality, assets, financial wellbeing, and social policy. If your academic expertise aligns with CHASM’s mission, this fellowship could be a transformative step in your research journey.
What This Fellowship Is All About?
The International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme is designed to strengthen global research collaboration by bringing international academics to the University of Birmingham for dedicated, high-impact work with CHASM researchers.
Each year, previous fellows have produced influential research, policy outputs, and long-term collaborations—demonstrating the power of this short-term yet intensive academic residency.
For 2026, CHASM is again seeking international scholars whose work resonates with its core research themes:
- Wealth, Assets, and Inequality
- Poverty, Precarity, Saving, and Debt
- Risk and Financial Wellbeing in Later Life
If you are working in any of these areas, this is your cue to step into a global research environment that values innovation, evidence-based policymaking, and real-world impact.
Funding Package: Up to £5,000 Available
The fellowship offers funding of up to £5,000, which covers:
- Economy-class airfare
- Accommodation during your stay
- Research-related costs included in the proposal
Note: Subsistence expenses such as food, drinks, or local travel are not covered, so applicants should plan accordingly.
What Fellows Will Do at CHASM?
Selected researchers will spend a minimum of two weeks at the Centre—at any time before the end of 2026—where they’ll have access to office space, IT support, and a collaborative academic community. During the fellowship, CHASM expects visiting scholars to engage in the following:
1# Collaborative Research
Work closely with CHASM’s core researchers and generate at least one high-quality publication within 12 months. Additional outputs with wider influence are highly encouraged.
2# Academic Contribution
Deliver a research seminar or speak at a CHASM event, sharing insights and advancing discussion around financial wellbeing, inequality, or related fields.
Selection Criteria: What CHASM Is Looking For
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Strength of CV and academic background
- Quality and relevance of the research proposal
- Potential contribution to CHASM’s ongoing work
- Alignment with CHASM’s thematic priorities
Strong applicants will demonstrate policy relevance, methodological rigor, and the capacity for high-impact collaboration.
The last date to apply for the International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme 2026 is Monday, 23 February 2026.
