A new funding update comes from London as the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London opens its Postgraduate Taught Scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic session. This opportunity supports students pursuing Master’s-level qualifications in psychiatry, psychology, and neuroscience, and remains available only for those beginning their studies in September 2026. This news article outlines what these scholarships offer, who can apply, and the full deadlines for applicants planning to study at one of the world’s leading mental health research institutions.
These scholarships have been launched to ease the financial commitment of postgraduate education and include multiple schemes: the School of Academic Psychiatry Scholarships, School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences Scholarships, School of Neuroscience Scholarships, and the IoPPN Dean’s Scholarships.
Each award is valued at £5,000 and is applied directly toward tuition fees through internal allocation. While the scholarship does not cover full tuition, it is designed to significantly reduce the financial load while encouraging the strongest applicants from around the world. Students who do not secure the scholarship will still be considered for admission to their chosen programme, meaning scholarship results have no impact on academic admissions outcomes.
What the Scholarship Offers?
The IoPPN Postgraduate Taught Scholarships provide partial financial support for eligible applicants across psychiatry, psychology, and neuroscience fields. Each scholarship is valued at £5,000 and is paid directly toward tuition fees. Recipients remain responsible for covering the remaining tuition balance, either through personal funding or additional awards. The scholarship cannot be combined with any other award that fully covers tuition, such as Chevening. These awards support full-time postgraduate taught study at the levels of PGCert, PGDip, or MSc.
Eligibility Checks for 2026 Applicants
To qualify for this funding round, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
Applicants must apply to one of the eligible full-time Postgraduate Taught programmes at IoPPN, beginning in September 2026, and scholarships cannot be deferred beyond this intake. They must meet King’s College London’s academic entry requirements and demonstrate English proficiency where required. Applicants must confirm their ability to self-fund any uncovered expenses not supported by the scholarship.
These awards are open to both home and international applicants, including EU students. Importantly, candidates who already hold a full Master’s degree or equivalent are not eligible; however, those with postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, or clinical/medical qualifications may apply. A separate scholarship application is required for each MSc programme if applying to more than one.
Eligible Courses
The scholarship applies to a wide range of IoPPN programmes, including but not limited to:
1# School of Academic Psychiatry:

Application and Selection Process
Applicants must first submit an online admissions application to an eligible IoPPN programme. After this step, they complete the scholarship application form. Both applications are assessed together, although applicants do not need to hold an offer at the time of scholarship application. Applications must be complete, including required documents such as references, transcripts, and English language scores if available.
The selection process evaluates academic performance, relevant clinical or professional experience, and personal statements that demonstrate alignment with the chosen programme and future aspirations. Some scholarship recipients may later be invited to participate in outreach or recruitment-based activities, such as sharing testimonials or speaking at events.
