Are you a healthcare professional passionate about advancing kidney care through peritoneal dialysis (PD)? The International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) invites individual and team applicants from around the world to apply for its highly regarded ISPD Scholarships (Fellowship Program). With a generous funding package and a mission to grow global PD expertise, this opportunity is ideal for early-career doctors and nurses aiming to bring meaningful change to their home institutions.
Where It’s Offered?
This fellowship supports placements at established Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Reference Centers worldwide, including regional training hubs. Fellows get hands-on and observational training in institutions recognized for their excellence and commitment to building future PD leaders.
Funding Amount of ISPD Fellowship
The ISPD Fellowship Program offers two funding tracks to support professional training in peritoneal dialysis. For individual fellowships, applicants can undertake training for a duration ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months, with a funding amount of up to $5,000 USD to cover related expenses.
In a newly introduced initiative, Doctor-Nurse Team Fellowships are also available, allowing a physician and nurse from the same institution to train together in a PD center for 6 to 8 weeks. These team fellowships offer a maximum funding of up to $9,000 USD per team, fostering collaborative learning and a unified approach to establishing or expanding PD programs upon return.
Eligibility Criteria
For Individual Applicants:
- Open to both ISPD members and non-members
- Applicants from developing countries are strongly encouraged to apply
- Applicants from developed countries must be under 40 years old
For Doctor-Nurse Teams:
- Both applicants must be from the same institution
- Team must submit a joint application, including training objectives, CVs, and support letters.
Selection Priorities
Applications for the ISPD Fellowship are evaluated based on several key criteria. These include the merit and clarity of the applicant’s objectives, the quality and relevance of the proposed training center, and the strength of the applicant’s plan to implement or enhance peritoneal dialysis (PD) services in their home institution.
Special consideration is given to Doctor-Nurse Team Applications, as well as to applicants who select PD training centers located within their own country or region, aligning with ISPD’s goal of fostering sustainable, locally adaptable PD programs.
Choosing Your Destination
When selecting a training center:
- Ensure the language of instruction and PD practices match your institution’s needs
- Review hands-on training regulations in the destination country
- ISPD provides a list of approved PD Reference Centers, which should be contacted one at a time for placement confirmation
