The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) proudly presents the James W. Lewis High School Global Leader Scholarship for 2024. Eligibility:
- Open to NSHSS members who are currently high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
Scholarship Objectives:
The James W. Lewis Global Leader Scholarship has been established to recognize young leaders who embody the values that Mr. Lewis has championed throughout his career. These values include:
- Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Advocating for and creating educational opportunities for all, especially for under-represented groups.
- Commitment to Educational Opportunities: Supporting young people in their pursuit of knowledge and skills.
- Commitment to Youth Leadership: Encouraging leadership among youth and fostering their potential.
- Commitment to Community Engagement and Volunteerism: Promoting active participation and service within the community.
- Commitment to a Global Perspective: Emphasizing the importance of a global outlook in all endeavors.
- Commitment to Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Inspiring creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit the following:
- Essay Response: Write a 500-800 word essay addressing the question:
- “Mr. Lewis has an overriding philosophy: ‘The future of our planet depends on how we prepare the world’s youth. Let them dream, explore, and achieve for the betterment of themselves and the global community.’ How do you embody this philosophy? Which of Mr. Lewis’ values do you best embody and demonstrate? Please provide specific examples of each.”
- Media: Pictures, videos, or other media showcasing your leadership in action (optional).
- Headshot Photo: A color headshot suitable for website posting.
- Academic Resume: Detailing your achievements and extracurricular activities.
- Current Transcript: Can be official or unofficial.
- Letter of Recommendation: From a teacher, mentor, or community leader who can attest to your leadership qualities and commitment to Mr. Lewis’s values.
