The 2025 JAL Scholarship Program is now open for applications, offering an exciting opportunity for university students to engage in a unique cultural and academic experience in Japan. This year’s theme is ‘SDGs – Towards a Sustainable Future’, with a focus on environmental issues and water conservation.

Program Overview

The 2025 JAL Scholarship Program is a fully-funded initiative that will run from June 25 to July 16, 2025, with participants engaging in an online program followed by an immersive experience in Japan.

  • Duration: 22 days
  • Online Program: June 25 – July 1, 2025 (7 days)
  • Japan Local Program: July 2 – July 16, 2025 (15 days)
  • Host Cities: Fukuoka, Tokyo, and surrounding areas
  • Number of Participants: Three representatives from South Korea will be selected.

Benefits of the JAL Scholarship Program 2025

The JAL Foundation fully funds all program-related expenses, ensuring a stress-free experience for participants. Covered expenses include:

    • Round-trip airfare between the participant’s country of residence and Tokyo (economy class via Japan Airlines)
    • Accommodation and meals during the program
    • Domestic transportation in Japan
    • Travel insurance covering health, theft, and loss.

Program Activities

Participants will engage in diverse activities designed to enhance their understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environmental challenges, and potential solutions. The program will consist of:

1# Online Program (First 7 Days)

    • Lectures on SDGs and global environmental issues
    • Presentations from previous JAL Scholarship participants
    • Goal-setting for the Japan-based portion of the program.

2# Japan Local Program (Last 15 Days)

    • Keynote Lectures: Expert discussions on environmental sustainability
    • Fieldwork: Visits to relevant sites, surveys, and collaborative studies with Japanese students
    • Group Discussions & Presentations: Collaborative action planning and final presentations in Tokyo.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be between 20 and 25 years old at the time of the program
    • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in their home country
    • Have an interest in SDGs and environmental issues (prior knowledge is not required)
    • Possess Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N2 or higher) to participate in discussions and lectures
    • Be committed to attending all sessions and actively contributing to the program
    • Submit a pre-program assignment and a post-program report within the specified deadlines

Application Process

Students from South Korea, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Australia, and Guam are eligible to apply. One student per region will be selected.

    • Applications are reviewed by Japan Airlines (JAL) branch offices in each participating region.
    • Selection is based on the application form and interviews conducted by local JAL representatives.
    • The selection process may vary by region.
