Where Is It Offered?
This scholarship is offered by the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association and is intended for Taiwanese nationals currently residing in Japan and enrolled (or planning to enroll in April 2026) in Japanese graduate schools—including Master’s, Doctoral, and Professional Degree programs.
JTEA Scholarship Benefits
Selected scholars will receive:
Monthly Stipend:

- ¥144,000 for Master’s and Professional Graduate Programs
- ¥145,000 for Doctoral Programs
- Additional ¥2,000–¥3,000 if studying in designated areas
Tuition Support:

- Reimbursement of tuition fees (within budget limits) upon submission of proof
- Note: Entrance examination and admission fees are not covered
Return Airfare:

- One-way economy class ticket to Taiwan upon successful program completion
- Only applicable for students returning directly to Taiwan after graduation within the scholarship period.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold Taiwanese nationality and reside in Japan as of October 2025
- Be a foreign student with a “Student” residence status (留学) enrolled in:
- A full-time graduate program (Master’s, Doctoral, or Professional)
- OR currently be a final-year undergraduate, research student, or non-degree student planning to enter a graduate school as a regular student in April 2026
- Be born on or after April 2, 1991
- Be physically and mentally fit for graduate-level academic work
- Have strong motivation to contribute to Japan-Taiwan relations during and after study
- Not be receiving other scholarships from the Japanese government or affiliated institutions
- Not exceed the standard duration of study or have changed residence status from “Student”
- Not plan long-term stays outside Japan for fieldwork or internships starting April 2026
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Completed Japanese-language application form with a photo
- Research plan (4,000–6,000 characters, Japanese or English, detailed and specific)
- Master’s thesis (for Doctoral students) or abstract
- Transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, originals required)
- Certificate of enrollment and expected graduation
- Admission letter (for those entering in April 2026)
- Recommendation letter from a supervising professor
- Copy of passport and current residency record showing “Student” visa status
- Medical certificate (issued after April 1, 2025)
- Return envelope with ¥180 stamp
- Signed pledge and checklist documents.

Application Timeline
The last date to apply for the 2026 Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Domestic Scholarship is October 24, 2025 (postmarked by that day). Late applications or incomplete submissions will not be considered. Results will be announced between late February to early March 2026 via written notification.
