Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the National Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Ph.D. candidate with plans to complete their dissertation by the end of the fellowship or within a two-year detailed write-up plan.
- Be engaged in a dissertation that sheds new light on American politics, foreign policy, or related global issues.
- Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
- This is not a post-doctoral fellowship.
Application Process
Applicants of National Fellowship 2025 by Jeffersons foundation must submit a comprehensive set of materials, including:
- Applicant Information Sheet.
- Project Description (1,200 words): Overview of your dissertation, its thesis, and its contribution to existing scholarship.
- Research Plan (500 words): Outline of steps to complete chapters or articles.
- Network Proposal (1,200 words): Identification of scholars to form a working group advancing your research agenda.
- Op-ed or Blog Post (750 words): A sample of public engagement derived from your research.
- Professional Development Statement (500 words): Justification for new skills and competencies to be acquired during the fellowship.
- Bibliography (3 pages): Relevant works.
- Curriculum Vitae (2 pages).
- Writing Sample (40 pages): Dissertation chapter or journal article with an introduction.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: One must be from the applicant’s advisor.
