Before preparing an essay, check your eligibility and gather proof of Polish ancestry. This is a targeted tuition award: Polish heritage alone does not qualify an applicant without the required US citizenship or permanent-resident status.

Who qualifies for the Kosciuszko Foundation graduate award?

You need Polish descent, US citizenship or legal permanent residency, and a GPA of at least 3.0. All fields and majors are eligible, so applicants can consider subjects ranging from engineering and business to humanities and medical sciences.

Only one immediate-family member may receive a tuition scholarship in a given academic year. Each individual can receive a maximum of two tuition scholarships during their studies; reapplying does not guarantee renewal.

What does the $30,000 maximum mean for your study budget?

$30,000 is the top of the published award range, not a guaranteed payment. The scholarship supports tuition and should not be treated as a fully funded package covering accommodation, meals, travel and insurance.

Selection considers academic achievement, motivation, essays, recommendations, Polish American community involvement and financial need. Use your application to connect your proposed studies with concrete achievements and community participation.

How should you prepare for the 20 October opening?

Prepare your evidence now, then submit through the Foundation’s Reviewr application route when the new cycle opens.

  1. Check the Graduate Tuition Scholarship rules and your university’s separate admission requirements.
  2. Gather ancestry documents tracing one line to a Polish-born ancestor. If unavailable, the published procedure accepts verification from a prominent community member; a relative’s letter is insufficient.
  3. Prepare a CV, official transcripts covering two academic years, a publication-suitable headshot and US-status evidence. Complete the statement of purpose and scholarship essay questions.
  4. Ask two recent professors or teachers for academic recommendations on university letterhead. Enter their institutional email addresses so they can upload letters directly; an optional third non-academic letter may supplement them.
  5. From 20 October, follow the Foundation’s tuition scholarship application page to Reviewer. Choose the award matching your profile. The Foundation also reviews you for other qualifying awards.

When must your application and references arrive?

The last date to apply for the Kosciuszko Foundation Graduate Tuition Scholarship for 2027–2028 is 1 February 2027 at 11:59 PM EST. Applications open on 20 October 2026. Recommendation letters are due on 15 February 2027; follow the graduate page’s 5:00 PM EST cutoff, although the general page lists 11:59 PM EST. As checked on 2 October 2026, confirm that timing in the new-cycle portal.
