What You Will Study: The MGHD Degree

The Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD) is an 18-month master’s program designed to prepare students for the complex, on-the-ground realities of healthcare delivery. It follows a blended learning structure:

  • First Semester (Aug–Dec 2026): Online coursework
  • Second & Third Semesters (Jan–Dec 2027): In-person, intensive training in Rwanda

The MGHD degree offers four powerful specialization options:

  1. One Health – addressing health through the lens of humans, animals, and the environment
  2. Global Surgery – strengthening surgical systems and access across regions
  3. Health Management – leading and managing health programs and institutions
  4. Community & Social Medicine – bringing equitable healthcare to underserved communities

The program emphasizes real-world problem solving, community engagement, professional mentorship, and hands-on practice.


Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To apply for this fully funded opportunity, candidates must:

  • Be 35 years or younger at the time of application (flexibility applies for persons with disabilities).
  • Be citizens, residents, or refugees in any African country.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from any academic background.
  • Demonstrate passion for improving health outcomes and addressing inequities.
  • Be ready to pursue full-time study for 18 months.
  • Applicants who already hold a master’s degree are not eligible.

Application Timeline (2026/2027)

The application window for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Global Health Equity opens on 14 November 2025, and all applicants must submit their complete applications no later than 18 January 2026 at 5:00 PM CAT.

Following the submission period, shortlisted candidates will proceed to the admissions exam scheduled for February 2026, with interviews taking place in March 2026. Final decisions will be released in May 2026, marking the conclusion of the selection cycle for the 2026–2027 academic year.
