MSc Fellowship 2025 in Graphene Research in Greece

Aspiring material scientists and nanotech researchers, here’s your chance to ignite your research career at one of Europe’s premier institutes. The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT), part of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), has announced an open call for applications for a funded MSc research fellowship under the prestigious HORIZON EUROPE research project GRAPHERGIA.

Fellowship Overview: Graphene Meets Next-Gen Energy Tech

The selected MSc fellow will be part of the pioneering GRAPHERGIA project, titled “Use of laser sources for the synthesis of graphene-based nanostructures with applications in flexible energy harvesting and storage devices.” This initiative aims to revolutionize the way we produce and integrate graphene nanohybrids directly into flexible supercapacitors and energy storage components using laser-assisted synthesis methods.

The research work will unfold at FORTH/ICE-HT in Patras, Greece, with hands-on involvement in developing laser techniques for creating graphene materials, characterizing flexible supercapacitor electrodes, and conducting electrochemical performance tests using advanced setups.

The Fellowship Details:

  • Location: FORTH/ICE-HT, Patras, Greece
  • Start Date: June 1, 2025
  • Duration: Up to 6 months (renewable)
  • Fellowship Amount: Up to €700/month (based on qualifications)

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Hold a BSc in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Be enrolled in an MSc program in any of the above fields.
  • Have hands-on experience in:
    • Laser-based synthesis of graphene materials
    • Supercapacitor electrode fabrication on flexible substrates
    • Electrochemical characterization (three-electrode setups, coin cells)
  • Be fluent in Greek and have English proficiency at B2 level or above.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed using a 100-point system:

  • Experience in fabrication and testing of supercapacitors (40 points)
  • Laser synthesis experience (30 points)
  • English language proficiency (20 points)
  • Undergraduate GPA (10 points).
