National Bank of Belgium Research Fellowship 2025

Are you a professor in Europe with expertise in economics or finance? Here’s a great chance to work with one of Europe’s top central banks and receive €100,000 in research funding.

The National Bank of Belgium (NBB) has opened applications for its 2025 Research Fellowship Programme. This fellowship supports academic researchers who want to conduct high-quality research related to Belgium’s economic and policy challenges.


Who Can Apply?

This fellowship is open to professors (full, associate, assistant, or visiting) at universities in EU Member States. You must either be a citizen, a permanent resident, or legally allowed to work in an EU country. You should also be actively involved in research in an EU Member State.


What Can You Research?

Your research should focus on one of the following key themes:

  • Agent Heterogeneity: How individuals and firms react to economic changes and policies differently.
  • Climate Change: The economic impact of transitioning to climate neutrality.
  • Digitalisation & AI: How automation, robotics, and AI are changing markets and jobs.
  • International Risks: Global trade tensions, energy dependencies, and monetary risks.
  • Macroeconomic Policy: How policies affect economies, especially during global shocks.

Your proposal can be based on macroeconomic modeling, statistics, or modern econometric methods.
