Fully-funded Scholarships 2026-2027 (International Students)

New Fellowships 2026/27 at University of Münster (Germany)

The Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study “Unity and Diversity in Law” (EViR) at the University of Münster, Germany, has officially opened applications for its 2026/27 fellowship program. These fellowships last six to twelve months and invite outstanding researchers to contribute to an international dialogue on how legal systems balance unity and diversity across time and cultures.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowships are open to postdoctoral and senior scholars with expertise in history, law, or legal history. Projects should connect closely to the Center’s annual themes or research perspectives. A completed PhD is required before the fellowship begins. Exceptional applications may also be considered for the 2027/28 academic year.

What Fellows Gain?

Selected fellows will join an interdisciplinary, international community, with German and English as working languages. They will present their projects, join collaborative events, and have opportunities to publish in the Center’s open-access series. Fellows will be provided with a workspace and—most importantly—dedicated time to focus on their research in Münster.

Fellowship Terms

  • Duration: 6–12 months
  • Start Dates: September–October 2026 or March–April 2027
  • Residency: Fellows must live in Münster for the duration. Extensive research travel elsewhere is not possible.
  • Funding: Either a tailored stipend or coverage for a substitute teaching position at the fellow’s home university (according to German federal regulations). Travel costs to and from Münster (economy class) are also reimbursed. Housing is not included, but assistance will be provided to find accommodation.

Application Process

Applications must include:

  • A completed cover sheet (downloadable from the official website).
  • A research proposal (~1,000 words) linking the project to EViR’s agenda and annual themes.
  • A work plan (~500 words).
  • A CV (max 5 pages) with up to 20 key publications.

Application Deadline: October 15, 2025.
