New York Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Scholarship 2025
The New York Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Society, Inc. (HNMS) is proud to announce the Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Scholarship 2025, aimed at supporting Japanese life scientists pursuing biomedical research in the United States. This prestigious scholarship reflects the society’s dedication to honoring Dr. Hideyo Noguchi’s legacy, inspiring future generations, and fostering cultural ties between the United States and Japan.
Scholarship Benefits
The HNMS Scholarship offers a generous award of $2,000 to a promising Japanese scientist committed to life science research. The recipient will be selected in early May and recognized during a special award ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, marking the Memorial Day of Dr. Noguchi’s passing. The awardee is also required to submit an annual progress report, emphasizing their ongoing contributions to biomedical sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be engaged in life science research.
- Be a graduate student pursuing MD and/or PhD degrees or a non-faculty fellow with an MD and/or PhD degree obtained within the last five years.
- Be admitted to a graduate school or employed at an academic institution in the United States.
- Have completed prior higher education or life science training in Japan.

- NIH-style Biosketch.
- Research Project Outline: Highlight the broad, long-term objectives and specific aims of the current or future research project.
- Personal Statement: Include a career development plan, career goals, and examples demonstrating devotion to science and alignment with HNMS’s mission.
- Letters of Recommendation: Up to two letters from mentors in the US, submitted directly by the mentors.
