Nishimura Foundation International Scholarship 2025 at Universitas Gadjah Mada

Calling all aspiring scholars with dreams of studying in Japan—your golden opportunity is here! The Nishimura International Scholarship Fund is now open for the 2025 intake, offering generous support to students aiming to pursue undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2), and doctoral (S3) studies at some of Japan’s most prestigious universities.

This scholarship is more than just financial aid—it’s a gateway to a world-class education, rich cultural experiences, and the chance to be a bridge between Indonesia and Japan.


Eligible Universities

Applicants can apply to:

  • Kyoto University
  • Osaka University
  • Ritsumeikan University
  • Kwansei Gakuin University
  • And other partner universities in Japan

Note: Online study applicants from Indonesia are ineligible—except those already residing in Osaka.


Who Can Apply?

  • Students with a strong interest in Japanese culture and society
  • Those who are self-funded and accepted (or in process of acceptance) at one of the eligible universities
  • Students with financial need
  • Academic performance:
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduate
    • Minimum 3.5 GPA for master’s
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn Japanese.

Required Documents for Submission of Your Application

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Research proposal (English or Japanese)
  • Motivation letter (English or Japanese)
  • Legalized academic transcript and diploma
  • English or Japanese language certificate
  • Letter of recommendation from: A lecturer or faculty, Office of International Affairs, Academic Advisor/Dean/Head of Program.
  • Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from university (can be submitted later)

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

  • Monthly living allowance: 130,000 JPY
  • Scholarship duration: 2 years (Master’s), and 3 years (PhD)
  • One-time arrival grant: 150,000 JPY for airfare and initial costs
  • Payment frequency: Every 3 months.

Note: Award is canceled if not accepted to the specified universities.

Application Timeline

The application deadline for the Nishimura Foundation International Scholarship 2025 is 10 December 2025 for students planning to begin their studies in April 2026. All required documents must arrive in Yogyakarta no later than this date. Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place in May 2026, and the official Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Japanese university can be submitted later, typically by mid-February 2026 once the university admissions decisions are officially released.
