01 Who should prepare for the BI Presidential Scholarship?

You need an overall ECTS grade A or equivalent, plus eligibility for your chosen BI master’s. Meeting an admission threshold alone does not establish scholarship eligibility.

BI’s full-time master’s catalogue includes Business, Business Analytics, Business Communication, Data Science for Business, Finance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Organizational Psychology, Quantitative Finance, Strategic Marketing Management and Sustainable Finance. Norwegian-taught options have their own language requirements.

The Presidential award covers eligible programmes at BI’s Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim campuses; the BI–Luiss Joint Master in Marketing is excluded. Choose the actual programme and campus together.

For MSc admission, BI normally requires a relevant 180-ECTS bachelor’s degree, or a bachelor’s containing at least 80 ECTS relevant to the specialization. Prepare a course-by-course match between your transcript and the programme’s subject prerequisites.

BI’s transcript evaluation guidance explains that it uses grades from all bachelor’s years, weighted by course credits. Its published admission equivalencies are not Presidential Scholarship cutoffs.

02 What does BI cover, and what should you budget yourself?

The living stipend depends on BI’s applicant classification, so establish your category before planning your budget. The following comparison summarizes the BI Presidential Scholarship funding rules.

Applicant category Award coverage Budget consequence
International category Full tuition plus NOK 50,000 per semester, for up to two years. Compare the stipend with your full living-cost budget.
Norwegian applicants, residents of Norway and Sivøk applicants Full tuition for up to two years. Arrange living-cost funding separately.

A Norwegian bachelor’s degree or eligibility for Norwegian tuition reductions/Lånekassen support can place an international citizen in the domestic category. Renewal requires 30 ECTS each semester and a cumulative B average.

Do not treat tuition coverage as an unlimited expense allowance. BI’s enrolment and fees guidance excludes academic literature from tuition. Build a separate budget for books, travel, housing deposits and any immigration costs.

03 What can you prepare now, and how will you apply?

Prepare your admission evidence and scholarship PDF now, then submit them together through BI’s application portal. You do not need an admission offer before uploading the scholarship request.

I would priorities test planning before polishing the letter. An excellent draft cannot replace missing required test evidence.

Under BI’s MSc admission requirements, applicants with non-Nordic bachelor’s degrees normally need GMAT Focus 555, GMAT 10th Edition 600, or GRE Quantitative 158. English alternatives include TOEFL iBT 90, PTE Academic 62, Cambridge C1 Advanced 176 or C2 Proficiency 180.

A waiver is a separate request: BI’s test waiver rules and forms include an English-test route for graduates with at least two years of higher education taught in English. Eligible partner-institution graduates also have a GMAT waiver route. Prepare the relevant form and evidence; English-medium study does not automatically remove every test requirement.

  1. Now: assemble your admission file. Gather transcripts, diploma where available, the official grading scale, passport identification page, one-page CV and financial declaration. Documents must be in English or a Scandinavian language, with certified translations and originals where needed.
  2. Now: write your scholarship case. Combine your CV and a scholarship letter of no more than one page into one PDF. Explain why your academic preparation merits support. Our scholarship motivation-letter guide and templates can help with structure; adapt the content to BI’s merit criteria and page limit.
  3. After opening: create your BI application. Select your programme through its “Apply now” link and use the BI application portal. Upload admission evidence and place the combined PDF in the “Scholarship” section.
  4. Before submission: review the complete package. Include required test scores or waiver documentation and the scholarship request. BI does not accept additional scholarship documentation after submission.
  5. After the admission decision: respond to BI. Accept the admission offer to remain eligible for scholarship consideration. Read the binding enrolment contract and withdrawal terms before signing; funding decisions arrive separately.

My recommendation is to draft the letter around two strong academic examples and the learning you want from your chosen degree. Keep every achievement specific and verifiable.

04 Questions that matter before you submit to BI

Can I apply while finishing my bachelor’s degree?

Yes, BI can assess final-semester applicants for conditional admission. Prepare your latest transcript: five semesters for a three-year degree or seven for a four-year degree. Required tests still need to meet the scholarship timetable.

Can I request another BI scholarship too?

Yes. International Presidential applicants are also considered for the Master International Scholarship, which provides tuition support. BI awards only one scholarship per applicant; compare any eventual offer with your budget.

Is email an alternative to the scholarship portal?

For new external applicants, no. The exception is current third-year BI Sivøk students, who submit their CV and letter to [email protected] with the subject “BI Presidential Scholarship Application”.

Should I write mainly about financial hardship?

No. BI’s entrance scholarships assess academic merit rather than financial need. Explain the evidence of your preparation and suitability; do not assume a hardship narrative replaces the academic case.

05 When does the BI Presidential Scholarship 2027 application window open?

BI’s published full-time application schedule opens on 1 November 2026 for the upcoming 2027 entry cycle. The last date to apply for the BI Presidential Scholarship offered by BI Norwegian Business School is 1 March 2027, under its published annual March deadline.

Use BI’s official application schedule alongside the scholarship rules. Required GMAT/GRE and English tests must be taken before 1 March 2027 unless an applicable waiver is granted; later rolling admission does not extend scholarship eligibility.

BI’s scholarship application guidance separates admission and funding decisions. Presidential applicants should receive their scholarship decision by the end of April; accept any award by the deadline in its offer.
