This article serves as a complete guidance overview—explaining what type of opportunity this is, what the scholarship covers, who should apply, how eligibility is assessed, and when applications must be submitted.

What Type of Opportunity Is This?

The NPUST Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students is a merit-based university scholarship designed to attract academically strong international students and help them complete their studies in Taiwan without unnecessary financial pressure. Rather than being a one-time grant, it functions as a renewable academic support scheme, assessed annually based on performance.

It supports undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, and is awarded either at the time of admission or during ongoing studies.

What This NPUST Scholarship Offers?

NPUST’s scholarship is flexible and tiered, allowing the university to support students based on academic strength and study level. The support focuses on reducing tuition and living costs, which are often the biggest barriers for international students.

Depending on the award decision, the scholarship may include:

  • Partial or full tuition fee waiver
  • Waiver of miscellaneous and credit fees (within approved limits)
  • Free accommodation in NPUST student dormitories
  • Monthly stipend support (for doctoral students in specific cases).

Duration of Support

  • Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis
  • Renewal is possible, subject to academic performance
  • Expected funding duration: Master’s programs: up to 2 years and PhD programs: up to 3 years

Students who exceed the standard study duration may still receive partial tuition and fee waivers, though stipends are limited.

Eligibility Checks: Who Should Apply?

To be considered for the NPUST Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students, applicants must first hold foreign nationality, as the program is strictly designed to support non-Taiwanese students pursuing higher education in Taiwan. The scholarship is open to both new international applicants applying for admission and currently enrolled foreign students who wish to continue receiving financial support in the next academic year.

New international students are eligible to apply at the time they submit their admission application to NPUST. For students who are already studying at the university, eligibility is assessed based on academic performance and conduct during the previous academic year. Undergraduate students are required to demonstrate an average academic score of at least 75 percent, while graduate students at the master’s or doctoral level must maintain an average of 80 percent or higher. In addition to academic results, all continuing applicants must also meet the university’s conduct requirement, with a minimum conduct score of 80 percent.

Applicants must also note that this scholarship is not compatible with other external scholarships. Students who are already receiving funding from other scholarship sources are not eligible to hold the NPUST scholarship simultaneously. Meeting these criteria ensures that the scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate both academic strength and responsible academic conduct, aligning with NPUST’s goal of supporting high-performing international students throughout their studies.

For New International Applicants (2026–2027 Intake)

For new international applicants, the NPUST Scholarship application must be submitted together with the admission application. To be considered for the 2026–2027 academic year, all required materials must reach the university no later than March 31, 2026. Applications submitted after this date are not considered, even if admission documents are complete.

For currently enrolled international students, including those applying for scholarship renewal, the application window opens annually in mid-year. Applications for the 2026–2027 academic cycle must be submitted between July 1 and July 31, 2026. Scholarship decisions are typically finalized and communicated to applicants before mid-August, allowing sufficient time for academic and financial planning for the upcoming year.
