The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has officially opened the call for applications for its Indigenous Fellowship Program (IFP) 2026, offering a unique four-week training session in Geneva. This long-standing initiative—established in 1997—invites indigenous leaders, activists, and community representatives to learn about UN mechanisms and how to effectively champion the rights of indigenous peoples on a global scale.

What Does the Fellowship Cover?

Successful fellows will receive a fully funded package including:

• Return international airfare to Geneva, Switzerland
• Living expenses for the full duration of the four-week program
• Basic health insurance while participating in the training

The fellowship is conducted with simultaneous interpretation in four languages—English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese—bringing together selected candidates from around the world to engage with the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, typically held in June or July.

Who Can Apply?
