PhD Fellowship 2025 in Astrophysics at IAC in Spain

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in Tenerife, Spain, is offering an exciting, fully funded PhD fellowship for international applicants in the field of Astrophysics under two major research projects—LIOM (Laboratory for Innovation in Opto-Mechanics) and CELESTE (Cutting Edge Leap to Excellence in Space and Optics Technologies). The selected candidate will be based at IACTEC in La Laguna, a hub of scientific excellence, and will work toward completing a PhD through the University of La Laguna (ULL).


What Does the Fellowship Cover?

  • A full 4-year employment contract as a predoctoral researcher
  • A relocation package of up to €2,500 covering a flight ticket and two-week accommodation
  • Annual stipend: Year 1 & 2: €20,681.72, Year 3: €21,813.76, Year 4: €26,631.30.
  • If the PhD is completed before 4 years, a postdoctoral training contract (POP) of up to 12 months will be granted with an increased salary of €28,253.76
  • Support for non-EU candidates with visa and work permit procedures.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must hold a degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • Degree must meet the PhD admission criteria at the University of La Laguna (ULL) (MSc or equivalent with at least 300 ECTS including 60 at the master level)
  • Final degree score must be 7.0 out of 10 (or **7.5 if combining Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees)
  • Degree must have been awarded on or after January 31, 2022
  • Proficiency in English (B1 level) or Spanish (if English is your native language) is required
  • International degrees must include official translations and recognition/equivalence certifications.

  • Annex V & VI declarations (PhD program eligibility and prior contract status)
  • Disability or child certificate (if applicable)
  • Names of 3 academic referees

All documents must be translated into English or Spanish if issued in another language.
