PhD in AI Scholarship 2025 at University of Surrey
The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) AI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for Digital Media Inclusion is now accepting applications for its 2025/2026 cohort at University of Surrey. This transformative program, a collaboration between the University of Surrey’s Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI and Royal Holloway University of London’s StoryFutures, aims to develop responsible AI technologies that make digital media accessible to all.
Program Highlights
- Interdisciplinary Training: The CDT offers cross-disciplinary training embedded in real-world challenges and creative practice, addressing the industry’s need for professionals with responsible AI, inclusive design, and creative skills.
- Industry Collaboration: The program is co-designed and co-delivered with creative industry and end-user partners to remove significant real-world barriers to media inclusion.
- Research Focus: PhD candidates will work on projects that develop intelligent media adapting to individual needs, reducing barriers related to preference, neurodivergence, age, language, and sensory or physical abilities.
Funding Details
The scholarship provides funding for full-time candidates over four years, covering:
- UK home tuition fees
- A tax-free maintenance stipend of £20,780 per year (as per UKRI’s 2025/2026 rates)
- An enhanced supplement of £4,000 per year
- Potential access to additional funding for related training and development opportunities
Eligibility Requirements
The program seeks candidates with academic excellence, a passion for research in AI for digital media inclusion, and evidence of effective teamwork. International students are eligible to apply, with all UKRI-funded doctoral students receiving the full award, including the stipend and home-level tuition fees.
