Politecnico di Milano Scholarships 2027–2028: Process To Study for Free in Italy

Your next engineering, architecture or design project could begin with a funded master’s in Italy: Politecnico di Milano has opened its 2027–2028 international merit scholarship call. Its English-taught Master of Science programmes offer routes into advanced technical and creative study, with scholarships that remove tuition costs and, for selected recipients, contribute towards living expenses.

The important decision is which programme and campus fit both your academic background and your budget. Does applying for admission automatically enter you for funding? And can you apply before your English certificate is ready? Here is how to navigate the separate applications and choose the funding route that matches your plans.

Polimi 2027: what to know before applying
Status: Applications are open for the 2027–2028 MSc merit scholarship competition.
Who qualifies: International applicants entering eligible English-taught MSc programmes; campus and programme restrictions apply.
Funding: Tuition waivers, with additional cash support under selected award categories.
English: IELTS 6 or another accepted qualification; qualifying English-medium bachelor’s degrees can receive an exemption.
Application fee: €50 during the early-bird period. Administrative costs remain payable after a scholarship award.
Timing: Admission, the scholarship form and English evidence have separate deadlines. See the final section.
Official information checked: 20 October 2026.

01 Which Politecnico di Milano scholarship fits your budget?

The current call offers 64 merit scholarships, and every category includes a tuition waiver. However, the allowance depends on the award and campus, so your programme choice also shapes your funding options.

Award Places Funding Eligible location or programme
Platinum 10 €10,000 gross + tuition waiver English-taught MSc programmes at Milano Leonardo or Bovisa.
Gold – Milan 18 €8,000 gross + tuition waiver English-taught MSc programmes at Milano Leonardo or Bovisa.
Gold – Piacenza 16 €5,000 gross + tuition waiver Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design; Landscape Architecture – Land Landscape Heritage; Energy Engineering, Renewables and Environmental Sustainability track.
Bronze – Piacenza 10 €2,500 gross + tuition waiver Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics for Manufacturing track.
Silver 10 Tuition waiver English-taught MSc programmes at Cremona, Lecco, Mantova or Piacenza.

The 2027–2028 merit scholarship call specifies approximately €190 in administrative fees, rather than the approximately €170 quoted on the overview page. Cash amounts are gross, and Silver provides no living allowance.

My recommendation is to build a rent, food and travel budget before treating an award as sufficient funding. A tuition waiver can make a major difference, but you still need a practical plan for living costs.

DSU is a separate financial-aid route. Polimi’s Diritto allo Studio Universitario scheme assesses household finances and academic progress. Support can include money, catering and discounted accommodation, with benefits varying by student circumstances. The published call currently concerns 2026–2027; the 2027–2028 deadline has not been announced.

For bachelor’s applicants, the linked Process Engineering and Industrial Engineering scholarship page still displays a closed 2026–2027 call. The university also signposts MAECI and Invest Your Talent in Italy funding, each subject to its own application rules.

02 Can your degree and English evidence qualify for Polimi?

You need an academic background suitable for an eligible English-taught MSc and must apply through the early-bird admission period. Explore the official MSc programme catalogue by subject, language and campus. Choices span engineering, architecture, urban planning and design.

Scholarship selection considers previous education, programme match, academic achievements and application evidence. GPA matters, but admission does not guarantee funding. I would prioritise a programme where your transcript and projects demonstrate preparation, rather than choosing solely for the largest allowance.

IELTS is one accepted option, rather than a universal requirement. Polimi lists IELTS 6, PTE Academic 59 and other accepted qualifications. An English-medium bachelor’s lasting at least three years can qualify for exemption when your university certifies that at least 75% of its courses were taught in English.

You may begin the admission evaluation without the language certificate, but accepted English evidence is required for scholarship consideration. Polimi’s document and language checklist explains the accepted evidence and country-specific academic requirements.

03 How to submit both Polimi applications

Apply for MSc admission first, then complete the separate merit scholarship form. Waiting for an admission decision before requesting funding could mean missing the scholarship deadline.

  1. Prepare your academic file. Gather your bachelor’s qualification or final-year enrolment certificate, transcript, grading-scale statement and CV of no more than two pages. Include a portfolio where required. Recommendation and motivation letters are optional supporting documents.
  2. Submit the admission application. Follow Polimi’s foreign-qualification application instructions, select your programme and pay the early-bird fee. Review academic uploads before payment because subsequent changes are restricted.
  3. Submit the scholarship request. In Polimi Online Services, follow Benefits and Agreements > Economic benefits > Scholarships for International Master of Science Students a.y. 2027–2028. Complete and send the separate form.
  4. Complete admission conditions. Accept a positive evaluation and provide valid English evidence within the scholarship timetable. Keep these tasks separate from submitting the funding form.
  5. Respond to an award. Follow the acceptance email, pay the required administrative fee and enrol within the stated deadlines.

04 Polimi scholarship questions that affect your plans

Can I apply while finishing my bachelor’s degree?

Yes. Polimi accepts an official university document confirming final-year enrolment when the degree is not yet available. You must still satisfy the qualification requirements for enrolment.

Can I keep both merit funding and DSU?

No, incompatible awards cannot be retained together. The merit call requires a choice within ten days of the latest award; international mobility scholarships are an exception.

Is the second scholarship year guaranteed?

No. Renewal depends on academic performance and continuing in the same MSc programme. Treat second-year funding as conditional when planning your budget.

05 Politecnico di Milano scholarship 2027–2028 deadlines

The early-bird MSc admission and fee-payment period is 1 October to 1 December 2026, closing at 11:59 p.m. CET (UTC+1). The application fee during this period is €50. Polimi’s official admissions schedule lists later rounds, but those do not qualify for this merit scholarship call.

The last date to apply for the Politecnico di Milano Merit-Based International Scholarships 2027–2028 is 15 December 2026 at 12 noon Italian time, CET (UTC+1). The separate scholarship application period began on 1 October 2026.

The deadline to submit valid English evidence for scholarship consideration is 4 March 2027, according to the official scholarship page. Record admission, funding and language evidence as three separate tasks so that a completed university application does not leave your scholarship request unfinished.
